An international leader in the Food & Beverage Industry has a new opportunity for a Chemical Process Engineer at their facility in the Midwestern US. The Chemical Process Engineer will be responsible for leading multiple process-development projects. This position will conduct day-to-day project work in the development of technology and manufacturing processes to support new product/innovation development in the Research and Development area.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct equipment selection, pilot/scale-up tests, factory acceptance testing, process qualification. Source and develop external contract manufacturing to support new product development and on-going manufacturing. Assist Process Development Group Leader in evaluating and qualifying process technology/processing parameters leading to the ability to quickly produce new beverages. Work with operations to ensure the successful production start-ups of new food & beverage products and to determine production equipment is fully functional. Partner with the Product Development Group to develop and test products. Develop specifications for the manufacturing/production processes, instrumentation and equipment, from lab through pilot plant to production scale-up, to meet product/process design requirements. Conduct appropriate studies to demonstrate the ability of the product/device to function as intended (i.e. verification and validation process). Use statistics-based experimentation and principles of process excellence. Monitor the performance of processes and equipment and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Work with the in-house manufacturing group to scale up, validate and transfer the commercial manufacturing process.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar and 5+ years' experience in a similar position in the beverage industry, or an advanced degree. A demonstrated understanding and use of statistical methods in experiment design and data analysis. Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders and demonstrate superior communication skills. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects within the R&D function. Food & Beverage experience working with outside vendors (ingredient suppliers, flavor houses) is required.
