Chemical Process Engineer (Food & Beverage)

An international leader in the Food & Beverage Industry has a new opportunity for a Chemical Process Engineer at their facility in the Midwestern US.  The Chemical Process Engineer will be responsible for leading multiple process-development projects. This position will conduct day-to-day project work in the development of technology and manufacturing processes to support new product/innovation development in the Research and Development area.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct equipment selection, pilot/scale-up tests, factory acceptance testing, process qualification.  Source and develop external contract manufacturing to support new product development and on-going manufacturing.  Assist Process Development Group Leader in evaluating and qualifying process technology/processing parameters leading to the ability to quickly produce new beverages.  Work with operations to ensure the successful production start-ups of new food & beverage products and to determine production equipment is fully functional.  Partner with the Product Development Group to develop and test products.  Develop specifications for the manufacturing/production processes, instrumentation and equipment, from lab through pilot plant to production scale-up, to meet product/process design requirements.  Conduct appropriate studies to demonstrate the ability of the product/device to function as intended (i.e. verification and validation process).  Use statistics-based experimentation and principles of process excellence.  Monitor the performance of processes and equipment and make recommendations for continuous improvement.  Work with the in-house manufacturing group to scale up, validate and transfer the commercial manufacturing process.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar and  5+ years' experience in a similar position in the beverage industry, or an advanced degree.  A demonstrated understanding and use of statistical methods in experiment design and data analysis.  Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders and demonstrate superior communication skills.  Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects within the R&D function.  Food & Beverage experience working with outside vendors (ingredient suppliers, flavor houses) is required.  Ability to uphold safety standards and participate in Continuous Process Improvement.  All applicants for this position must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
